In a stunning insight into the mind of Her Majesty, a senior Buckingham Palace source has revealed the Queen is “exasperated and frustrated” with the UK’s current political turmoil. Traditionally the Queen is not allowed to suggest any political leanings. But according to the Sunday Times, Her Majesty has finally had enough.
The source said: “I think she’s really dismayed.
“I’ve heard her talking about her disappointment in the current political class and its inability to govern correctly.
“She expressed her exasperation and frustration about the quality of our political leadership, and that frustration will only have grown.”
The Queen has become a major talking point in Brexit discussions in recent weeks.
As Boris Johnson, the UK’s Prime Minister, looks to get the UK out of the EU “with or without a deal”, many opponents have suggested the Queen should intervene.
Last week, Labour’s shadow chancellor John McDonnell claimed his party’s leader Jeremy Corbyn should demand a meeting with the royal to assure her that he was ready to lead the country.
Reports suggest that talks have taken place between the Queen’s private secretary Edward Young, cabinet secretary Sir Mark Seawall and Mr Johnson’s principal private secretary Peter Hill.
A senior Whitehall source said: “The royal household wants to manage this in a way that doesn’t damage the ongoing, long-term position of the crown.”
In recent weeks, tensions in Parliament have erupted with talk of a no confidence vote being passed in Mr Johnson.
Opposition parties, and some members of the Conservative Party, have pledged to back the motion which could see Mr Johnson ousted and a general election called.
Mr Johnson will also have to contend with Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party in any General Election.
The UK remains on course to conclude Brexit by October 31.
